Ethernet has a limited cable length between the switch and the camera of 100m (328 ft.). When needed to cover a longer distance, a switch is normally used as a repeater, or optical fiber may be used. To overcome this distance limit, network installers can simply connect an AXIS T8129 PoE Extender in-line with the Cat-5e or Cat-6 cable, and forward the rest to the camera. Dependent on midspan and camera type, the connection in total can be between 200-400 meters (656-1312 ft.). Compatibility AXIS T8129 PoE Extender is compatible with all Axis network video products supporting PoE, and it is both IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at compliant. Check in the Set-up tab for information typical connections with Axis network video products. Range Range depends on the power required, so a 25 watt PTZ dome camera may be located 200 m (656 ft.) away using a single AXIS T8129. Or, the cable length to a regular 5 watt network camera may extend up to 400 m (1312 ft.), by fitting three AXIS T8129 at 100 m (328 ft.) intervals. Check in the Range tab for information about Maximum distances. No additional power supply AXIS T8129 does not require any additional power supply and the connected network camera is fed by a single PoE switch or midspan. It offers two female Ethernet ports, which are both configured automatically for link speed, duplex and crossover and the full-rate network throughput is maintained.

The maximum number of cameras that can be connected in the daisy chain depends on the generated bit rate per camera. The limitations are the 100 Mbit link between camera and media converter switch, and the 1000 Mbit link between the media converter switches. AXIS T8604 does not feature IGMP Snooping. For long distance connections Fiber optic connections are typically used in city surveillance, airports and other long distance installations, where lighting strikes are a threat or great connection distances are required. Surveillance integrators in the field can also connect installation monitors and laptops to AXIS T8604 for camera maintenance and control. Easy conversion and installation The media converter switch is compatible with all Axis network video products. An Axis camera/encoder connects to AXIS T8604 using an Ethernet cable, and through the media converter switch, power and data is provided to the network video product. Vandal-resistant to withstand adversities The polycarbonate, AXIS T98A-VE Surveillance Cabinet Series is IP66-rated for protection against the ingress of dust and high pressure water jets from any direction. The NEMA 4X rating protects against windblown dust, salt spray, rain, hose-directed water, and damage from external ice formation. It provides also IK10-rated material for protection against impact and vandalism. The surveillance cabinets support vibration rating 4M4 and 4M3 (AXIS T98A18-VE). Step-by-step installation The modularity of AXIS T98A-VE Surveillance Cabinet Series enables different categories of installers to do their part time separated in order to optimize the workflow. - Firstly, the installer mounts AXIS T98A-VE Mounting Plate with cable protection - Secondly, the certified electrician mounts the mains power parts and cover them with the power cover - Thirdly, the installer can finalize the installation of the low-voltage units Ease of installation AXIS T98A-VE offers several ease of installation features to simplify the work for the installers. With a selection of optional mounting brackets, AXIS T98A-VE Mounting Plate can be installed on a wall, pole or building corner. The polycarbonate cabinet base is extremely lightweight that can be easily carried in one hand. The cabinet door can be left or right hinged, thanks to removable hinge pins. Furthermore, the hinges have a stop that locks the cabinet door at 105° to avoid that the door hits back the installer. A DIN rail is pre-mounted for those units that can be snapped on it by using a DIN rail clip. A molded DIN rail is also designed on the inner right-side of the cabinet base. The cabinet base can hang on the hooks of the mounted plate while cables are routed and connected. In a secondary step the cabinet base is slid and secured on the mounting plate with screws. Separated compartments to enhance security For better installation and improve cost efficiency, the inner compartment with a DIN rail can be split into two sections: one to fit mains power units and a second for low-voltage units that do not require installation by a certified electrician.
